INTERNATIONALS - SINGAPORE
I would like to thank Nigel Bird for sending the
following, which he rightly describes as a "novelty item". Nigel says "China v England and China v Cocos islands...... all unofficial of course. Singapore Speedway Sat.17th May 1930 Promoted by Aussie A J Reynolds assisted by Chas Datson, Jack Sharp, Tiger Lewis and Ted Yates. The English and Chinese riders were all novices. I think the event was a bit farcical.. the final race was not run ...sorry, no scores or result. Captain of China was Ong Chin Beng.... England's Captain was Bobby Waters... ex pat? with motorcycle racing experience." It appears that the final meeting of the 6-week promotion was on 07.06. |

Below are further items relating to this promotion in Singapore, including an England v Australia match race advertised in the "Malaya Tribune". This is by permission of Gary Gregor, whose father George (actually a Welshman, who rode with success at Cardiff) represented England. These items have been taken (with permission!) from Lynn Isaac's excellent site "Sand Speed Wales" here |
